President urges public responsibility following teen’s death in crash

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged all citizens to take personal and family responsibility to ensure road safety, stressing the importance of following traffic rules.
The president made the appeal in a message shared on social media following the death of a 16-year-old boy in a serious road accident near the Sinamale’ Bridge on 24 February. The tragic accident occurred around 1:30 am when a speeding motorcycle lost control and veered over the pavement. The 19-year-old motorcycle driver and his 16-year-old passenger were injured in the accident. The 16-year-old later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
In his post, the president expressed deep sadness and offered prayers for the deceased, and wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the accident. He emphasised that respecting traffic rules is essential for the safety of everyone and called for society-wide cooperation to prevent such tragedies.
According to the police, the motorcycle driver did not have a valid licence for that vehicle category. The investigation is ongoing.
