584 seats secured for PNC, 563 for MDP in final results after run-off elections

Official results from the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) have shown that People’s National Congress (PNC), has secured 584 seats, while Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured 563 in the second round of Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held on fourth April.
The second round of voting for elections has concluded on 18th April, with ECM releasing the final results.
Overall, PNC, the ruling party, had acquired the majority of seats. From the total of 1,351 candidates having competed in these elections, PNC secured 584 seats.
MDP had the second greatest number of elected members, at 563. Additionally, 169 independent candidates were also elected.
The oathtaking ceremony for elected officials will be held on May 17th, as finalised by the Local Government Authority (LGA).
