North Korea has cancelled the United Nation’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s official visit a day before he was due to arrive in the country.
Mr. Ban Ki-moon was due to visit an industrial complex in the Kaesong economic zone run in jointly by the North and the South Korea.
Speaking at a forum in Seoul، he said that the move was “deeply regrettable” and that no explanation was given.
If the visit had gone through، then Mr. Ban would be the first UN Secretary General to visit North Korea in the last 20 years time، and he had expressed for his hopes in promoting reconciliation.
When he had first announced his meeting on Tuesday، UN Sec-Gen had said that he would “urge North Korea to co-operate with the international community for the Korean Peninsula and for peace and stability.”
Mr. Ban who had been the former South Korean foreign minister was scheduled to meet with South Korean business leaders and North Korean workers in his trip to Kaesong.
