Appeal case of the remand of Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim for 15 days has been scheduled for today at the High Court.
According to reports the hearing is scheduled to be held today at 14:00 hrs.
Former Transport Minister Ameen Ibrahim was arrested by the Police following the Mayday protest at about 3:00 in the night while he was at the Head Office of the Jumhooree Party.
According to Police he was charged with instigating violence during his speeches at the Mayday protest held on 1st of May.
Ameen’s attorney, Ahmed Shafeeg said that he has not made any such remarks during his speeches at the protest. He said that the Police failed to exactly point out what Ameen said to cause violence.
Ameen said that he has never said anything to break the law or encouraging anyone to break the law.
He said that he only called the government to stop the tyranny against the people of Maldives.
Meanwhile, Detainees, lawyers and families of detainees from May Day protest have reported of police brutality and abuse during and after arrest on 1 May.
Police arrested 195 people, including minors, and the leaders of all the main opposition parties.
MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed, Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdulla, and Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim were all arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, following a court order alleging them of attempting to overthrow the government.
The crackdown by the Yameen regime constitutes one of the biggest mass arrests in the Maldives’ history.
