The legal team of former president Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison، has handed over a CCTV footage which shows Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) officer bringing over the document which states Nasheed has been permanently transferred to home detention for the remainder of his prison sentence.
Lawyer Hassan Latheef، member of Nasheed’s legal team، was summoned to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) regarding the ongoing case of the Correctional Service document on the transfer of Nasheed to home detention.
Speaking to the media outside the Police station، Hassan Latheef said the footage is from the CCTV of M. Yaagoothuge، where Nasheed was kept during his home detention.
Hassan Latheef said the footage shows MCS officer bringing the document to the residence.
He refuted the media reports which says that the document was presented directly to Nasheed، however، he said the footage shows the authority officer bringing the document to Yaagoothuge.
Hassan Latheef further said the officer was not wearing the authority uniform، however the document was under the authority’s letterhead، along with the stamp and signature of the authority.
Latheef also said the MCS had amended the document before it was presented to the Police for the ongoing case.
“Instead of 125 as the reference number، an additional zero was written by a pen، making it 1250، in the letter of MCS، which they had presented to the Police،” Latheef said.
In addition، Latheef said the matter will be separately filed at the Police.
