Habib Bank has announced its decision of closing over two dozen dormant bank accounts.
The accounts registered at the bank's Male' branch are said to be dormant without any financial transactions for a period of five years as of December 2021.
Meanwhile, Habib Bank confirms that it has not sent out any documents to the owners for some time, the bank still mailed bank statements regularly to the last known addresses of the respective owners.
Due to the notable idle movement in the accounts, Habib Bank had provided notices to the owners on 02nd January requesting their presence at the bank's branch within 45 days from the date of the notice.
The bank's notice to the owners follows the statutory provisions set out in the Maldives Banking Act.
Despite notice, the owners had failed to comply with the bank's request.
Habib Bank had sent out the second notice on Wednesday, 16th February requesting the presence of the owners at the bank's headquarters within 60 days from the date of the notice.
The owners are advised to bring either a legitimate and unexpired National Identity card or passport for verification.
Failure to comply with the second notice will result in the immediate closure of the accounts while the monies deposited in the accounts at the time of closure will be transferred to Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
