FIFA extends FAM mandate to register charter
FIFA has granted the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) an extensions until March 31, 2015 to amend their new charter, which was unrecognised by the government, register it in the home ministry and hold their elections. In a statement released late Friday, FIFA’s emergency committee said the extension had been granted to “enable the FAM to complete the registration process for their statutes in order to organise an elective Congress”. FIFA had delegated the running of FAM to its Normalisation Committee last year December to compile a charter and hold their elections. Accordingly, FAM had approved their new charter in September this year. However, the home ministry had rejected its registration on account of the charter’s conflictions with the Maldives’ laws and regulations, thus putting FAM’s elective congress on hiatus. Subsequently, FIFA had extended the Normalisation Committee’s mandate until December 31 to enable FAM to register their charter and hold their congress. However, despite the impending deadline, authorities have still refused registration.
