Deputy Leader of JP and former CP, Abdullah Riyaz have said that the head investigating officer in Gasim’s case wasn’t involved in any investigations in recent times.
Riyaz made this statement while speaking at the gathering held at M.Kunooz last night. He said that Qasim is being suspected of serious crimes and such cases are investigated by the Serious Crime Investigation Team of the police. He said that it is questionable why Qasim’s case was handed to general investigation team.
In 1990s when the government wanted to investigate the case of a prominent politician, a police officer who was in suspension was tasked to investigate the politician according to a member of the investigation team. All these unprofessional practices were eradicated from police after NSS was divided into police and MNDF.
Today, the investigative teams of police are professionals who were trained abroad. Even the leader of JP Qasim Ibrahim praised these police officers.
