Gov’t Vows Backing for Local Businesses to Attract Global Brands

The Minister of Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed has said that the government will provide the necessary support to promote local businesses in their efforts to attract international brands to the Maldives.
Speaking to PSM News after inaugurating the globally renowned flip-flop brand, Brazil’s Havaianas’ first outlet in Male’, Minister Saeed said the government wishes to encourage more international brands to set up shop in the Maldives, adding that it would provide an added incentive to the thousands of foreign tourists visiting the country.
He also said that the economy will benefit from the arrival of international brands and the government will always support the efforts of local businesses despite the many challenges. The Minister said the government will do everything possible to promote and grow local businesses in the country.
“President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's policy is to do things this way through encouragement and support. And the government can provide the required legal protection and technical assistance to promote local businesses to bring in international franchises and those who want to create their own brands in the Maldives,” he said.
According to the Minister, the establishment of international brands in the Maldives will benefit both customers and local businesses.
