Ahmad Wasif, the former Chairman of New Radiant, has established a new club called Blue Sports Club.
After New Radiant was suspended for three years by the former leadership of Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Wasif had also formed a club named Radiant together with the team's supporters.
When FAM determined that Radiant represented the then-suspended New Radiant, Wasif and the club's board halted Radiant's activities and resumed control of New Radiant.
He played a crucial role in lifting the club from suspension. Under his chairmanship, New Radiant regained the opportunity to compete in football in 2022.
Wasif also played a leading role in settling over MVR three million in debt owed to FIFA with government assistance. When Ahmed Mubeen, the current Chairman of New, expressed interest in taking over the club, Wasif and the board at that time resigned last year to provide that opportunity.
Less than a year after resigning from New Radiant, Blue Sports Club founded by Wasif has colors and a logo very similar to those of New Radiant.
However, he stated that there is no connection between Blue Sports and New Radiant.
Wasif said that the club's colors and logo were approved by a vote of the former club members. He added that these were the colors and logo design that most members preferred from options made available to them.
