Labor Relations Authority (LRA) states they have received complaints from 33 individuals over non-issuance of Ramadan allowance.
Every Maldivian employee is entitled to a Ramadan Allowance of minimum MVR 3,000, payable before the beginning of Ramadan, under Article 51 (a) of the Employment Act.
LRA had earlier opened the submission of complaints for employees who have not received their Ramadan Allowance.
Speaking with Sun on Wednesday, an official from LRA said they have received complaints from 33 individuals regarding Ramadan allowance.
Finance Ministry has instructed that Ramadan allowance will not be given to employees on unpaid leave and scholarship employees on paid leave. However, any such employee returning to work during Ramadan will be eligible for Ramadan Allowance accounting for the period from the date of their return till the end of Ramadan.
LRA has stated that all civil servants and private sector employees will be eligible for Ramadan Allowance, including temporary employees and employees on leaves stipulated under the law.
