Addu Meedhoo MP Abdul Rahman (Adhhu) sent a letter to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu this week, accusing Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon of speaking demeaningly towards the people of Addu.
Posting the letter on X, Abdul Rahman said he met Ghassan at the Parliament after the presidential address and mentioned that he rang the minister a couple of times regarding a matter relating to the people of Addu but received no response.
In response, he said, Ghassan had spoke very insultingly about Addu people.
"When I met Minister Ghassan Maumoon at the parliament after the presidential addressed, I told him that I had called him regarding two issues of great interest to the people of Addu, but the minister got angey and said that he didn't have to answer when we call and that Addu is not even related to him [implying he did not care about Addu]," the letter said.
In the letter Abdul Rahman further said that he reminded Ghassan that the two of them met many times during the presidential campaign and that Ghassan had told that if Addu people voted for PNC, they [the government] would make sure they would continue voting only for PNC.
However, Ghassan further raised his anger, Abdul Rahman said. "I went to Addu because you Addu people asked me to. I have nothing to do with Addu," the letter quoted Ghassan as saying.
The letter asked the President to ask Ghassan to apologize to the people.
