President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged that no government policy will be crafted that adversely affects citizens. He made these remarks during a visit to Rakeedhoo Island in Vaavu Atoll this morning, where he met with local leaders and residents to discuss community development needs.
The meeting took place at the Rakeedhoo harbour and included members of the Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee, and local residents. Among issues raised by the community was their desire to relocate to another island.
President Muizzu said that under the government’s policy to balance population distribution and development, any decision to relocate will only move forward after extensive consultation. He stated that at least 80 percent of Rakeedhoo’s population must agree for relocation to proceed.
The President acknowledged Rakeedhoo’s growing appeal for tourism, describing the island as a developing hub. He assured residents that development plans would take into account both current infrastructure and future potential, and that the government will carefully consider all feedback before implementing policies affecting the community.
