Maldives Foreign Minister Hails 60 Year Journey in UN

Maldives’ six decades journey as a member of the United Nations (UN) demonstrates that small states can shape global conversations, offer bold ideas and inspire action, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel has said.
In a video message on the occasion of 60 years of UN membership, Minister Dr Khaleel pointed out that after joining the UN, Maldives carried not only the dreams of its people, but also the hopes of a small nation eager to find its voice in the multilateral system.
Over the years, the UN has worked with the Maldives as a trusted and a valuable ally, in supporting its aspirations and strengthening its institutions, he noted.
“Together, we have built schools and hospitals, advanced gender equality, safeguarded our environment, and raised a united voice in the global fight against climate change,” the Minister said adding that Maldives’ journey within the UN system has demonstrated that small states can shape global conversations.
The Minister renewed Maldives’ commitment to building even deeper and more dynamic partnership with the UN in the coming years.
