Two Maldivian youths have been arrested with a large quantity of drugs during a raid on a home in Male’ City.
The suspects have been identified Amjadh Rigab, 36, Bulaafaruge, GA.Villingili and Mohamed Naif, 28, Morning Star, Sh. Noomara.
The Police said a large quantity of drugs, alongside a large sum of money, was discovered during the search of a home in Galolhu district on Tuesday under a court order. They placed the preliminary weight of the drugs discovered during the search at 266.29 grams.
Upon presentation before the court, Amjadh has been remanded in custody for five days while Naif has been remanded in custody pending the outcome his trial.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
 
Drugs remain one of the biggest social issues in the Maldives, with 1,989 drug-related cases reported to the Police in last year alone. It marks the third-highest type of crime reported to the authority.
