PPM's campaign commences across all atolls, securing funding arrangements: Heena

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s Spokesperson Heena Waleed said on Wednesday that the PPM and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition has commenced their campaign for the upcoming presidential election across all administrative atolls and funding for campaign activities are already underway.
In a message sent to opposition groups two days ago, it was stated they have started campaign work in all of the islands.
However, reports from PPM supporters in administrative islands suggest that they have not received any campaign instructions or financial support from the party.
When approached by Mihaaru News to address the claims made by PPM supporters in islands, Heena clarified that the campaign work had already begun under the leadership of constituency presidents and steering committees in the PPM/PNC coalition.
"Administrative work is also underway within the party to secure funding for the campaign," Heena said.
She said that, similar to the leadership of other parties who have been touring the islands, the leadership teams of PPM/PNC will also commence their campaign tours soon.
"We don't have the exact date yet, but the leaders will visit the islands in teams," Heena said.
Heena dismissed the rumors concerning internal concerns within the party regarding conducting the campaign and the eligibility of their presidential candidate, former President Abdulla Yameen, to participate in the election.
She mentioned that the party had not received any complaints or concerns of that nature.
"He is our presidential candidate. Despite currently being imprisoned, there should be no confusion that President Yameen is the candidate of our party" Heena said.
Heena said that not only the supporters of the opposition alliance but also the supporters of other parties would have no doubts about the presidential candidate of PPM/PNC.
