Blood donation offers everyone a chance to show generosity: First Lady

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called on eligible individuals to donate blood, stating that this presents an opportunity to express generosity, serve humanity, and gain goodwill and blessings, regardless of their wealth or financial means.
She made the statement at the official reception held at the Islamic Centre to mark World Blood Donor Day.
In her address, the First Lady highlighted the significance of dedicating a day to honouring the voluntary contributions of blood donors, describing them as exceptional individuals in more ways than one. She expressed her appreciation to those who have remained committed to this noble service, noting that one of the main reasons for observing a special day in honour of blood donors is to recognise and encourage voluntary blood donation, promote the spirit of selflessness and sacrifice for the wellbeing of others, and nurture kindness, compassion and mutual respect within society. She also encouraged those who may be hesitant or apprehensive about donating blood to find the confidence to take part in this valuable humanitarian service and experience the fulfilment that comes from helping others through such a meaningful act.
At the ceremony, commemorative shields and certificates were presented to long-serving blood donors and newly eligible 18-year-old first-time donors. Recognition was also given to organisations that hosted the highest number of blood donation camps and to individuals who made the highest number of donations through such camps. A Gold Award, recognising individuals who have consistently donated blood over an extended period, was also presented.
The First Lady presented Lifetime Contribution Awards to individuals in recognition of their outstanding and sustained commitment to voluntary blood donation, honouring those who have donated blood the greatest number of times over the years.
Health professionals and numerous blood donors attended the ceremony.
Observed annually on 14 June, World Blood Donor Day recognises the selfless and voluntary contributions of individuals who donate blood to help those in need.
