President announces second round of community meetings to commence in June

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the second round of public community meetings will commence in June. He made the remarks at a press briefing held at the President’s Office today.
The President stated that the community meetings have served as an important platform for direct engagement with the public, noting that certain issues do not always reach him through formal channels. He added that the meetings have proven to be an effective mechanism for identifying and addressing such concerns.
President Dr Muizzu affirmed that the second round of meetings will follow the same format as those previously held and expressed his commitment to holding one community meeting per week in Malé, subject to his schedule.
He further stated that the Administration will endeavour to hold meetings at least once a week, or as frequently as practicable, provided there are no scheduling constraints or official overseas travel. He added that the meetings will include engagements with professionals from various sectors, including tourism and fisheries, as well as residents of inhabited islands.
During the first round of community meetings, the President visited 187 inhabited islands and cities within the first 11 months of his presidency, engaging directly with residents to discuss the challenges faced by their communities. Of these, 63 islands were visited twice.
Responding to a question from a journalist, the President stated that the Government would act in accordance with recommendations from the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) to reduce expenditure in state-owned enterprises, including measures such as workforce optimisation and operational streamlining.
