Six arrested over Villingili bank heist

Police on Monday arrested six people in connection with a major robbery at the Bank of Maldives (BML) branch in Villingili, Gaafu Alif Atoll.
The police stated that they received reports of the heist in the early hours of Monday. The six suspects were taken into custody based on intelligence reports.
While the police did not reveal details of the suspects, local media reports that the suspects had broken into the bank through its roof, and broke open some safes. The police had closed off two areas of the island to investigate the robbery.
The police further stated that they had recovered some of the money robbed from the bank, without disclosing the total amount stolen or recovered.
