The Elections Commission has on Thursday given Mohamed ‘Ogaru’ Rameez Ali approval to form a new political party.
RaajjeMV understands that the party is named “Gaumee Vindhu” and will be led by Rameez, who was active in the formation of former ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM). However, of late, he has not been seen in the front lines of political activities.
While the formation of “Gaumee Vindhu” has been given the green light, EC had even given approval to form “Maldives Third way Democratic Party”.
The formation of a new political party in the country required the membership of 3,000 members and the political party funds given by the state will only be received by parties that have at least 10,000 members.
