The Legal team of the former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that none of the lawyers are given any opportunity by the Criminal Court to advocate on his behalf during the court hearings.
Speaking to the media, Hassan Lathee from the legal team of the former President said that according to the Criminal Court the legal team will have to register at the court two days before the trial.
The legal team stated that this was impossible as the case was submitted at the court yesterday and no one was informed regarding the case until Nasheed was arrested yesterday without any prior notice.
Hisan Hussein from the legal team said that it will be to clear to any sane person that it will be impossible to submit the forms two days ahead of a trial that they did not know would take place two days before.
The legal team also stated that they were unable to appeal the case at the court. The court gave the excuse that the appeal forms are not prepared yet.
Nasheed’s legal team raised concern regarding how the case is being carried out in the court.
The legal team stated that the trial of Nasheed is being conducted against the normal procedures at court.
