The Minister of External Affairs of India، Sushma Swaraj is set to visit Maldives next week.
According to TelegraphIndia، Sushma will visit Male on October 10 for detailed diplomatic discussions across all elements of bilateral relationship.
TelegraphIndia said that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is rushing foreign minister Sushma Swaraj to the Maldives next week amid growing worries over China’s influence on the Indian Ocean nation، signalling a rethink on a strategy to pressure the country following deep differences.”
Furthermore the report says the visit was announced following the meeting of Minister Sushma and foreign minister Dunya Maumoon، during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Meanwhile، Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set to arrive in Maldives in March this year، however، cancelled his trip over the growing tension in Maldives politics over the imprisonment of former president Mohamed Nasheed.
