President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has called on for all to assist the Government in solving the corruption case of MVR 87 million.
He made the appeal in the opening ceremony of the port in Utheemu Island in Haa Alif Atoll this evening.
In his address, President Yameen assured that the Government will probe corruption cases and will work to reclaim the cash lost in the process. He added that the recovery process had begun with the assistance of World Bank, and that if any assets and flats were bought with that cash measures will be taken. He also said that any cash transferred abroad will also be repossessed to the State.
“It is the responsibility of the State to recover that cash. Investigation of any related case and associated cash is a responsibility of state agencies,” he said.
In his address, President Yameen addressed the media reports of him receiving an $18 pack of cards. He called the media reports incredible and incredulous given the huge cases of corruption in the country. President Yameen, in addition said that the question of the cards must be asked from the person who initially gave that pack of cards, not in the media.
President Yameen further said that the deposits from MMPRC must be thoroughly investigated.
“Recently the accounts of the cash deposits had surfaced. Who had used the cash to spend on political rallies and other such activities is now public knowledge. PPM will not resort to street protests while in power,” he said.
He further added that all political parties had to collaborate in investigating the corruption cases in the country.
