The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the dredging of 10 hectares of land under the Naifaru reclamation project.
The project’s practical works were officially launched by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 28 October this year, during a visit to Naifaru as part of an atoll tour.
The project will add 44.8 hectares of land to Naifaru. The scope includes construction of 1,813 metres of rock boulder revetments, 283 metres of breakwater, 520 metres of low-crested breakwater and 180 metres of groyne. The primary aim of the project is to ease shortage of land on the existing land.
In their latest update, MTCC said 29 percent of the project has now reached completion, with the first shipment of gravel already delivered to the site.
The project was contracted to MTCC for USD 44 million, with a completion deadline of one year and nine months.
