The Ministry of Social and Family Development has partnered with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to develop an additional community centre for senior citizens in Hulhumale’, further strengthening support services for the elderly.
The agreement, signed on Monday at a special ceremony held at the Umar Zahir Building, marks a significant step in enhancing the well-being of senior residents in the area.
The new facility, expected to be completed within 24 months, will feature modern amenities designed to cater comprehensively to the needs of senior citizens. Among its key offerings will be regular health screenings, specialised medical care, and mental health relaxation zones. Additionally, the centre will include outdoor recreational spaces and a dedicated reading area to promote both physical and emotional wellness.
The Minister of State for Social and Family Development, Ibrahim Ismail Ali, signed the agreement on behalf of the government, while HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair represented the corporation. The project underscores the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the elderly by providing accessible, high-quality care and fostering a healthy lifestyle.
The centre follows the success of an earlier facility located in the second phase Hulhumale’ near Hiyaa flat area, which began operations this year. With this expansion, Hulhumale’ aims to set a benchmark in elder care services, ensuring that senior citizens receive the support and respect they deserve in a modern, nurturing environment.
