Fish exports drop by nearly 50 percent in 2024

The Maldives’ fish exports declined significantly in 2024.
The central bank, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA)’s statistics show last year, the Maldives exported 40,050.2 metric tons of fish. This is a 49.2 percent decline compared to the 78,766.4 metric tons exported the previous year.
Among the various types of fish exports, skipjack tuna topped the list with 22,391.7 metric tons. This is significantly less than the 54,732 tons exported in 2023. Last year, the Maldives also exported 9.331 metric tons of yellowfin tuna and 5,811 metric tons of canned and poached fish.
