Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has launched a search for a qualified party to manage and operate its catheterization laboratory (Cath Lab) services, which were established in 2023 but have yet to commence operations. The announcement, issued in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, invites interested parties to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a five-year contract to oversee the Cath Lab’s operations.
The Ministry of Finance has set a deadline of June 29, 2025, for EOI submissions, which must be sent via email. The Terms of Reference (TOR) detailing the scope of work will be available for download from the Ministry’s website starting June 15, 2025. Shortlisted parties will be invited to submit detailed proposals following the EOI evaluation.
The Cath Lab at AEH, established under the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government in 2023, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide critical cardiac treatments, including angiography and both invasive and non-invasive procedures. Despite its completion, the facility has faced challenges in initiating services due to a lack of operational staff, as noted by AEH’s CEO, Dr. Ibrahim Yasir, in a May 2024 statement to Mihaaru News.
The initiative to operationalize the Cath Lab aligns with a commitment made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his parliamentary campaign in April 2024, where he pledged to establish a Cath Lab at AEH comparable to those in Male’. The current call for an operator reflects ongoing efforts to fulfill this promise and enhance healthcare access for residents of Addu City and surrounding atolls.
