Gov't begins programme to increase youth resilience

Ministry of Education has signed an agreement with Transparency Maldives to conduct a programme to increase the resilience of youth, called Promoting Resilience in the Maldives (PRIME).
The agreement was signed by Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali and Executive Director of Transparency Maldives Aishath Rilweena.
The PRIME project aims to increase the resilience of vulnerable populations and at-risk groups such as youth against violent extremism, radicalisation, and recruitment. PRIME conducts evidence-based research and consultations to design projects that enhance social cohesion and improve career prospects, education, and employment opportunities for youth who are vulnerable to radicalisation.
The programme focuses on preventing violent extremism prior to its manifestation, which includes rehabilitating youth who feel excluded or have participated in criminal activity. The education ministry stated a risk assessment will be made to determine at-risk students and that awareness programmes will focus on both parents and students.
The PRIME project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
