Nasheed concerned over dismissal of Police and MNDF officers from work

Former President and Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed has expressed concern over the recent dismissal of Police and MNDF officers from work.
Via a statement on the MDP website, Nasheed stated that while it had been decided that the date for the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) to present its report is 31 August, several senior Police and MNDF officers have been threatened and dismissed over the past six months.
He noted that the Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Hameed and Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Adnan Anees were dismissed last week. Also, Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Manik was transferred to a lower rank.
He went on to say that Deputy Commander of Medical Services Captain Dr Fathmath Thahsyna Ibrahim was removed from her post last week; Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Didi who had served MNDF for 32 years resigned on 16 July, while Chief of Defence Force Major General Moosa Ali Jaleel, and Vice Chief of Defence Force Farhath Shaheer resigned in February.
Nasheed pointed out that decisions have to be made after the CNI presents its report, and advised against the dismissal and resignation of Police and MNDF Officers until then.
Two officers mentioned in Nasheed’s statement, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Hameed and Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Adnan Anees were dismissed following accusation of contributing to the loss of the country’s internal peace and calm.
They were questioned in relation to providing information to a report published by two cabinet members of former President Nasheed’s government.
Adnan was the Head of Marine Police, while Hameed was the Head of Police Intelligent Department.
Also, the Police Disciplinary Board has not cited any reason for their decision to demote Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Manik to the rank of Chief Inspector of Police.
Dr Thahsyna Ibrahim was demoted due to an ongoing investigation.
