After a two year hiatus, the extremely popular “Mas Race” (Fishing Race) organized by Ooredoo Maldives has kicked off.
The fishing competition which garnered immense support among locals had discontinued in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
In the 2022 edition a total of 23 teams will reportedly be competing, while the event of the competition will take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays during Ramadan, while the competition will discontinue during the last ten days of the Islamic sacred month.
During the first day of the event, which kicked off on Tuesday, 12 April, the ‘Team Post’ from Maldives Post Office was the first team to reach back to weigh their catch while the second team to make back was ‘Team RDC’ from Road Development Corporation.
Meanwhile, Ooredoo Maldives has confirmed that winners from the daily events will receive MVR5,000 as prize money. The winning team will receive a prize money of MVR50,000 while the best fisherman of the event will receive MVR5,000.
