State Minister of Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ali Waheed has said that this year’s Quran competition will be a very special competition.
The competition is scheduled to be commenced on 28th of this month. And this is the 30th national Quran competition.
Speaking to the press, Ali Waheed said that the memorization category has been changed this year.
“Previously the competitors of that category have to memorize the whole Quran. However now it has been changed to memorization of 10 juzzs, 20 juzzs and 30 juzzs. This is a very good change,” he said.
Ali Waheed said that 798 competitors will be participating in the competition this year.
“That is 290 students from the atolls and 477 students from Male’ and 10 students with special needs,” he said.
Ali Waheed said that the Quran memorizers will be given the special award by the President and the Hafidh certificate.
He noted that the program to create 500 memorizers commenced by the former Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has been very successful.
