Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Adheeb has announced that the government will be selling shares to Maldivian employees working at resorts where the government owns shares within the scope of this year.
Speaking to the press regarding the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) conference which will be held in the Maldives from the 3rd till the 5th of June, Minister Adheeb noted that the reason for the delay of the shares being sold to the employees of the resorts where shares are owned by the government is because that exertion for an appropriate model to be implemented is currently being undertaken.
Minister Adheeb stated that an appropriate model will be implemented within this year after thorough examination.
The Minister added that while selling shares to employees working in resorts where the government owns shares is part of the government’s manifesto, thorough examination is necessary before implementing a suitable model as rushing without making a financial feasibility plan could lead to damaging consequences. Minister Adheeb noted that the government is currently observing the diverse models adopted by different countries as a means of choosing a most appropriate model for the Maldives.
