Sheikh Imran’s legal counsel Ali Zahir said that Adhaalath Party Chief Sheikh Imran Abdullah was transferred back to prison from house arrest, without any legal reasons.
Speaking to Miadhu, Ali Zahir said that Imran was transferred back to prison past midnight Sunday.
“When he was brought to Court, no case was made. He was at home, then he was served a court order. The order said that the decision made by Criminal Court, authorizing his stay at home, had been nullified and that he had to stay in jail, until the end of trial,” Ali Zahir said.
All those who are deemed to be a flight risk during trial, are currently housed in Maafushi jail. As such former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been transferred from Dhoonidhoo to Maafushi.
At the time of his re-transfer, Sheikh Imran had filed a motion to change the judge presiding his case as well as a motion to halt the trial until a new presiding Judge can be appointed.
Adhaalath Party had taken part in the Friday protest arranged by opposition MDP. Both MDP and Adhaalath had not taken part in the first session of the Parliament for this year.
