The medical laboratory, slated for construction at the K. Gulhi Health Center, had its foundation stone laid on Wednesday.
The foundation stone of the laboratory was laid by Swiss Barakah Charity Co-CEO Mohamed Ajami, Huraa Constituency MP Dr Anara Naeem and Barakah Charity Maldives President Ahmed Zaki.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Health, Gulhi Council, and the island's health center also participated in the cornerstone ceremony.
The Barakah Charity said the medical laboratory will be modernised and that the charity group will bear all the expenses for the construction of the facility, which includes a toilet and a warehouse. The health ministry will provide necessary machinery and equipment for the laboratory, it said.
According to Baraka Charity, the aim is to complete all the work at the site within two months and open it to service.
Barakah Charity is a Swiss-based organization, founded with a focus on providing aid globally, including in over 60 countries. They are actively involved in emergency aid efforts, including support for Gaza, where they have been distributing essentials like food, water, and medical supplies to address the ongoing crisis.
