Maldives condemns Israeli move to reclassify West Bank land

The Government of the Maldives has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to convert areas of land in the occupied West Bank into what it describes as “state property”.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldivian government said the move amounts to a serious violation of international law and represents an expansion of what it called illegal settlement policies that undermine the rights of the Palestinian people.
It said such unilateral measures threaten the prospects for a just and lasting peace, and urged the international community to take what it described as urgent and concrete steps to halt the practice and ensure accountability.
The government also called for the upholding of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The Maldives reaffirmed its support for what it termed the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination, and reiterated its commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine.
