In his weekly press briefing, 'Presser with the Spox', Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef emphasised that ‘no one is above the law’ and that the law applies equally to all professions.
The Chief Government Spokesperson affirmed that no state institution would take action against any individual acting within the law, but stressed that every profession carries its own rights, discretions, powers, and responsibilities. He further maintained that it is the resolute stance of both the President and the Government to respect and uphold court orders.
Highlighting the separation of powers that underpins the Maldivian system, he assured that the Administration would not act in any way that undermines the judiciary system, erodes the authority of the judiciary, or curtails its legal powers.
He clarified that while the President's Office ensures press conferences held on its premises are conducted in line with established guidelines, the enforcement of court orders rests with the relevant enforcement agencies.
He further advised that any ambiguity surrounding the Criminal Court's recent injunction should be addressed through the appropriate formal procedures.
