UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Shoko Noda has said that Maldives has achieved a perfect constitution in the country’s journey toward democracy however holding a multi-party election in accordance to that constitution will not alone solve everything.
Ms. Shoko made this remark speaking at the conference held at Traders Hotel on Strengthening the Criminal Justice System of the Maldives.
The UNDP Resident Representative stated that the benefits of the hard work of the people to bring democracy to Maldives will be reaped when the justice system is established and perfected in accordance to the constitution.
Ms. Shoko noted that the United Nations have been cooperating to bring democratic reform and a constitution.
She said that the organization will help in the reform of the judiciary as well. She noted that there are many challenges against the reforming of the judiciary and granting the constitutional rights of the people.
Ms. Shoko underscored the importance of working towards establishing an evidence based system within the judiciary.
