The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that they will be holding a rally tomorrow.
On a tweet posted today، MDP said the rally، calling to free former president Mohamed Nasheed، will begin at 16:00 from Artificial Beach area.
Meanwhile MDP has announced a mass protest on the 6th of November.
A press statement released by the party on Wednesday said that while Maldivians are facing the Islamic New Year، there is no doubt that there is more sadness than happiness for Maldivians، hence the Islamic New Year resolution must be to establish a just، lawful government with equality and no impairment.
MDP’s statement said that since saving citizens who are being punished unjustly is a duty، the party has decided to organise a protest on the sixth of next month.
MDP called out for as many people as possible to participate in this protest.
Speaking at a public meeting held by MDP، the Vice President of the party، Mohamed Shifaz said that MDP will next come out on the streets and that this government will have to release the former president Mohamed Nasheed.
“Party’s activities need to be increased. We need to come out on the streets”، said Shifaz.
While MDP conducted a mass rally on the streets of Malé last Friday as well، a mass public meeting was also held on last Thursday night. Moreover، a corner meeting of MDP was also held near Seagull night before last night.
