Deputy Secretary General of Adaalath Party، Ahmed Shareef has been arrested following the refusal to obey police orders to cease and leave protest zone during Friday’s opposition led peaceful demonstration.
According to Adaalath Party، Shareef was arrested while he was protesting during Friday’s rally، while carrying a slogan to “free Adaalath Party President Sheikh Imran.”
Following Shareef’s arrest، his party had called out for his immediate release.
Police had also detained a photographer who was actively taking pictures of Friday’s protest event at the Majeedhee-Chaandhanee intersection. Officials had arrested the individual due to his refusal to leave protest site، and he had no press clarification documents on him.
Authorities have broken off the protest which had been organized by the opposition alliance.
