Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has not fulfilled their electoral pledges although an year has passed since the inception of the government.
Former President Nasheed made this remark speaking at the MDP- JP joint public rally held on Friday night.
He said that President Yameen is only using his powers for his political advantage rather than fulfilling his electoral pledges.
He said that the President is displaying his power by disbanding the coalition through which he won the Presidential election.
Nasheed said that the government in the past one and half years have not done much for the benefit of the people. He said that the government’s direction is towards despotism and a dictatorship.
He said that the government has not submitted any beneficial or important bills to the Peoples’ Majlis while they have the clear majority in the Majlis. All the bills submitted so far were about cementing their chairs.
Nasheed said that now all who voice out against the oppression of the government are being accused of trying to topple the government.
He said that it is absurd that the government accused the Minister of Defence Nazim of planning a coup using a gun and three bullets.
