The Criminal Court bench overseeing the terror case of Adhaalath Party President Sheikh Imran Abdullah has been reformed.
Public Service Media, PSM reported that the newly formed bench consists of Judges Abdul Baaree Yoosuf, Ahmed Sameer Abdul Azeez and Abdullah Nasheed. Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf will be presiding the bench.
Judges of the former bench, Judge Abdullah Didi and Judge Shujau Usman have been transferred to the High Court bench.
Sheikh Imran had denied the terror charges the State had filed against him. Adhaalath Party had previously stated that the charges against Sheikh Imran were politically motivated and that his detention was illegal.
Sheikh Imran was temporarily shifted to house arrest for less than 24 hours before his transfer to jail. Sheikh Imran’s lawyer, Ali Zahir stated that Imran was placed under arrest on the basis of a police intelligence report which had not been made public.
