An online workshop organized in collaboration with Alibaba.com is set to begin tomorrow at Nasandhura Palace Hotel, targeting Maldivian e-commerce businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. The one-day event is hosted jointly by the Ministry of Economic Development, Alibaba.com, and the Business Center Corporation (BCC), aiming to equip participants with key knowledge and tools to access global markets.
According to Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, over 450 participants have registered for the workshop, including businesses, startups, logistics and postal service providers, online platforms, banks, and freight companies. This marks a significant turnout and reflects the growing interest among Maldivians in digital commerce.
The workshop will focus on how Maldivian businesses can engage with Alibaba.com, one of the world’s largest online marketplaces. Sessions will cover platform engagement strategies, visibility and discoverability, advertising tactics, and tools provided by Alibaba to support small businesses. The Ministry noted that participation in such global platforms could open up international markets for local products and services.
This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to connect Maldivian businesses with renowned global e-commerce platforms. The Ministry continues to explore avenues to boost exports and digital presence, reaffirming President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to economic diversification through digital transformation.
