Crude oil thrown on the gates and walls of PPM Office operated in Themaa House in Henveiru ward of capital Male.
Police commenced a manhunt Monday to capture the perpetrators that vandalised the walls of the former office of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) with crude oil.
A video publicised by Maldives Police Service shows two men on a motorcycle throw something at Themaa house in Henveiru ward of capital Male where former president and PPM leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s faction of the divided ruling party still operates.
Former President Maumoon’s faction had filed the case at the police.
The incident of crude oil being thrown on the walls of Maumoon’s PPM office occurred amidst the heated political fallout between him and his half-brother and incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom that had split PPM into two factions. After the judicial courts had handed over PPM’s control from Maumoon to the latter, President Yameen’s faction had removed all assets, equipment and documents of PPM from its office at Themaa house to their current activity hub at Dharubaaruge. Meanwhile, Maumoon’s faction of PPM continue to run party operations at Themaa house.
