Maldives Police Service is investigating a physical altercation in R. Meedhoo between one of the agency's officers and a minor last Thursday.
Police said the off-duty officer came across minors on the road who were shouting and being loud. He then reportedly adviced them not to do that, but the minors verbally refused and declined to provide their information.
The agency said the officer then asked the minors to present themselves to the police station, only to have one of the minors physically assault the officer.
However, they are also looking into a complaint made by the family of one of the minors who accuse the officer of assaulting their child.
Polices' professional standards command is also conducting a review of how the officer controlled the child once he started attacking.
The issue came to light after CCTV footage of the incident started making rounds on social media.
