President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on its victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections held in Bangladesh.
In a post shared on X, the President extended his felicitations to party leader Tarique Rahman on the party’s electoral success. He expressed his anticipation of working closely together to further advance and deepen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Bangladesh.
President Muizzu stated that he is confident bilateral relations will continue to expand in scope and strength in the years ahead.
According to the latest counts reported by local television channels, the BNP and its allies secured at least 212 of the 299 seats contested in the Jatiya Sangsad, also known as the House of the Nation. The opposition Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies won 70 seats.
The outcome of the vote, widely regarded as the country’s first fully competitive election in years, has been viewed as pivotal for ensuring political stability in the Muslim-majority nation of 175 million people. The election followed months of unrest that disrupted daily life and key industries, including the garments sector, in which Bangladesh ranks as the world’s second-largest exporter.
