Maldives sees record surge in private jet traffic

The number of private jets arriving in the Maldives has more than doubled in the past two weeks, a dramatic surge that tourism officials attribute directly to flight cancellations and ongoing unrest in the Middle East.
According to data released by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), a total of 128 private jets landed in the island nation between 28 February and 14 March. This figure represents a staggering 166 percent increase compared to the same period last year, which saw only 70 such arrivals.
The data reveals a significant shift in daily traffic patterns. Last year, an average of five private jets arrived daily, with a single-day peak of nine. This year, however, the daily average has skyrocketed to over twelve, culminating in a remarkable high of eighteen jets arriving on 3 March alone.
The Maldives Association for Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has confirmed that the unprecedented influx is a direct consequence of the volatile situation in the Middle East, a key global transit hub.
With numerous commercial flights to the Maldives from the region being canceled, a significant number of affluent tourists have pivoted to private travel to reach their destination.
Despite the geopolitical tensions, Maldivian tourism associations maintain that the underlying global demand for travel to the archipelago remains robust and unchanged, with the surge in private jets underscoring the destination's enduring appeal as a premium, safe-haven for travelers.
