President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to all Maldivian citizens to give precedence to national interests in everything. In a message of congratulations on the occasion of Eid, President Yameen said that a lesson to be drawn from the Eid is to always prefer what is good for the nation over one’s own personal interests. President also called on the people to create and sustain an atmosphere of peace and calm in the country. “As such a happy occasion meets us today, I take this chance to plead all the beloved people of the Maldives to strengthen friendship and unity among our society. I also urge all my people to give precedence to national interest in all that we do,” said the President’s message. The President’s message also said that it is a great pleasure for him to wish a happy Eid to the people of the Maldives and Muslims all over the world from the Holy City of Makkah. The President is currently at Makkah for the pilgrimage.
