A case of G.A. Vilingili council president Niyaz Nizaar’s usage of another council member’s signature without his consent has come to authority’s notice.
According to reports، Niyaz had used another council member، Nadheem Mohamed’s signature on a set of documents exchanged between a third party.
Nadheem Mohamed confirms the news to “Vaguthu”.
“I was away for a course aimed at councillors، I resumed office back in March 4th after completing the course، when I resumed office، Deputy President informed me of my signature being used in various documents، so I inquired the matter in detail، Council President had used my signature without the consent of me or any other member to produce documents which were favoured a certain third party” Nadheem explained.
Nadheem confirms the signature used on the documents are very similar to that of Nadheem’s original signature.
“I questioned Council President regarding the matter and he denied any knowledge of the case” he added.
Furthermore، he said the case has been filed with Police، Local Government Authority and Anti Corruption Commission، asserting the case will be presented to court on a short notice as well.
Meanwhile Police authority states they have not received reports of any such case being filed at their office، and LGA and ACC were also unavailable for a comment on the issue.
According to Maldivian Penal Code’s Article number 31o، forging an original document to duplicate or modify the content and usage of signature without owner’s consent is a crime.
