Criminal Court on Wednesday has again rejected the re-prosecution of the case of 8th February 2012 Arson in Thinadhoo، submitted by Prosecutor General’s Office.
The state has pressed Terrorism Charges against 89 people from Thinadhoo for torching down Police Station، Magistrate Court and a Government Building in Thinadhoo on 8th February 2012.
Criminal Court rejected the re-prosecution sent to the court saying that the case will not be accepted by the court if PG Office does not assure a state lawyer to be present during the court proceeding.
The case was submitted to the Criminal Court the third time by PG Office for re-prosecution after the case was withdrawn from the court as the state-lawyer failed to show up for the court proceeding scheduled on Saturday.
PG Office has submitted the case to the High Court for appealing، following the withdrawal of the case by Criminal Court on Saturday.
Fifty five accused for the arson case was ordered detainment on the allegation of tampering of witnesses. Seventeen more were ordered for detainment as they did not show up for the court proceeding. However، as state lawyer failed to show up for the court proceeding on Saturday، the case was withdrawn، and all the detainees were released.
The trial is adjudicated by Chief Judge of the Criminal Court، Abdulla Mohamed (Abdulla Gaazy).
