India to assist with holding party talks

Ministry of External Affairs of India has expressed hope to facilitate a constructive dialogue among political parties in Maldives.
The Indian Express reported that a meeting was held yesterday between former President Mohamed Nasheed and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“India hopes that engagement with all the stakeholders in Maldives will facilitate a constructive dialogue among all the political parties and help in bringing stability to the country in line with the roadmap of February 16, 2012, drawn up by the President of Maldives,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, reported the Indian Express.
They further said that Nasheed was conveyed New Delhi’s position during his meetings with National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai on Monday.
Nasheed visited India to gain India’s support for early polls.
Since the transfer of power in the Maldives on 7 February, India has reiterated that the issues can only be resolved by holding discussions between parties.
